Ecommerce Website Design Agency

Ellington & Vale designs and builds ecommerce websites for Indian brands — on Shopify, WooCommerce or custom, depending on what the business actually needs rather than what we prefer to build.

Platform choice, decided honestly

Most agencies recommend the platform they are best at. The honest version depends on your catalogue, your team and your budget.

Shopify suits most D2C brands: fast to launch, reliable, well-supported, with a strong app ecosystem. Its costs scale with revenue through transaction fees, which matters at volume. More on our Shopify page.

WooCommerce gives more control and lower platform fees, at the cost of needing more maintenance and technical attention.

Custom builds are right when there is a genuine requirement neither can meet — complex configurators, unusual fulfilment logic, deep integration with existing systems. They are rarely right because custom sounds more serious.

Marketplace-only is a legitimate answer for some brands. If everything you sell moves through Amazon and Flipkart and you have no direct proposition yet, an expensive storefront can wait — see our ecommerce marketing page.

Designing for conversion, not for the pitch

An ecommerce site is judged on one thing, and it is not how it looks in a case study.

Product pages carry the sale. Image quality and quantity, specification clarity, review presentation, delivery and returns information visible before someone has to search for it, and a clear next step.

Category and search have to work. A customer who cannot find the product will not buy it, and site search is routinely the most-used and least-tested feature on an Indian ecommerce site.

Checkout is where carts die. Every additional field, forced account creation and unexplained charge costs conversions. India-specific considerations matter here — UPI, cash on delivery expectations in many categories, and the payment methods your customers actually use.

Mobile is the site

The majority of Indian ecommerce traffic is mobile, often on mid-range devices and inconsistent connections.

That makes mobile the design case, not the adaptation. Tap targets, image weight, form length and load speed on a real device on real network conditions — not on a designer's laptop on office wi-fi.

Built with the marketing in mind

A storefront built by people who will never see its campaign data tends to be structured for a clean handover rather than for what traffic actually does with it.

We build knowing what the paid and email programmes will need — landing page flexibility, clean tracking and event setup, product feed structure for shopping campaigns — because we are usually the ones who will run them.

What determines the cost

No published rates. What moves it: catalogue size and complexity; platform; whether custom functionality is genuinely required; whether photography and content are being produced or supplied; and whether brand and packaging are in scope alongside the build.

Tell us what you sell and how, and we will tell you honestly which platform fits — including when the cheaper answer is the right one.

FAQ

How much does an ecommerce website cost in India?
No published rates. Catalogue size, platform, and how much custom work and content production is involved drive it. Platform subscription and transaction fees are separate and paid to the platform.
Shopify or WooCommerce?
Shopify for most D2C brands wanting to launch reliably and quickly. WooCommerce where control and lower platform fees matter more than convenience, and you have someone to maintain it. Neither is universally right.
How long does an ecommerce site take?
Scope sets it, and content usually sets it more than design does. A build with product photography, descriptions and specifications ready moves quickly; one where those are being produced alongside takes as long as they take.
Can you migrate our existing store?
Yes. The technical work is routine; the URL mapping is where migrations lose rankings, and it is the part that needs care.
Do you run the marketing too?
Yes — and there is a real advantage to it, since the people buying the traffic can change the pages it lands on.
