Shopify Agency

Ellington & Vale builds Shopify stores for Indian brands and runs the marketing that sells through them. Those are usually two vendors. Making them one is the point.

The split that costs D2C brands money

Most Shopify brands hire a development agency to build the store and a marketing agency to drive traffic to it. The two rarely speak.

The consequence is predictable and expensive. The marketing team cannot change a product page that is losing conversions without raising a ticket. The build team optimises for a clean handover rather than for what the traffic actually does. When performance drops, each side has a credible explanation involving the other.

A store and the marketing running on it are one system. The people buying the traffic should be able to change the page it lands on. That is not a philosophical position — it is the difference between testing something this week and next quarter.

Store build and theme development

Shopify builds that are fast, work properly on the mid-range Android phones most Indian traffic arrives on, and are structured so your own team can add products and edit content without a developer.

Speed is a conversion factor before it is a technical one. A store that performs well on a designer's laptop and poorly on a patchy 4G connection is losing the majority of its traffic quietly.

App choice matters more than it looks. Every app adds weight, and a store carrying fifteen of them for features nobody uses has traded its own speed away one install at a time.

Conversion rate optimisation

Where the money usually is, and where least of the budget usually goes.

Product page structure, image quality and quantity, how reviews are presented, checkout friction, and the mobile experience specifically. A conversion improvement compounds against every rupee of traffic you will ever buy — which is why it is almost always the higher-return investment against adding more traffic to a store that converts poorly.

Marketing on Shopify

Paid acquisition, email and lifecycle flows, retention, and the analytics that tell you whether any of it is working. Covered in more depth on our ecommerce marketing page — what changes here is that we can act on what the data says without waiting for someone else's sprint.

Shopify's own analytics are a starting point, not an answer. Contribution margin — revenue after cost of goods, shipping, returns, payment fees and ad spend — is the number that decides whether growth is worth having, and it is not on the default dashboard.

Migrations

Moving to Shopify from another platform, or between Shopify themes. The technical part is routine; the part that goes wrong is the SEO.

A migration without a complete URL map loses the rankings the old store had. Every product, collection and content URL needs a 301 to its genuine equivalent — not a bulk redirect to the homepage, which search engines read as deleted content rather than moved content. Done properly a migration costs a short dip. Done carelessly it costs a year.

Brand, not just store

The layer underneath that most Shopify agencies do not offer at all: what the brand stands for, what it looks like, and packaging that makes the unboxing part of the product rather than an afterthought.

For a D2C brand the packaging is the only physical thing a customer touches. A beautiful store delivering a product in a plain brown box has ended the experience on its weakest note.

What determines the cost

No published rates. What moves it: whether this is a new build, a redesign or a migration; how many products and collections; whether custom functionality is needed beyond what apps provide; whether brand and packaging are in scope; and whether ongoing marketing is included and at what media budget.

FAQ

What does a Shopify agency do?
Builds and maintains Shopify stores. Some also market them. We do both, which is the reason this page exists as one service rather than two.
How much does a Shopify store cost in India?
No published rates. Cost is driven by catalogue size, how much custom work is needed beyond standard apps, and whether brand, photography and packaging are in scope. Shopify's own subscription and transaction fees are separate and paid to Shopify.
Should we use a theme or a custom build?
A good theme, properly configured, serves the large majority of brands and gets you trading far sooner. Custom development is worth it when you have a genuine requirement a theme cannot meet — not because custom sounds better.
Can you migrate our existing store to Shopify?
Yes. The technical migration is routine; the URL mapping is where migrations get damaged, and it is the part we spend the most care on.
Do you also run our ads and email?
Yes, and that is the argument for using one team — the people running the campaigns can change the pages those campaigns point at.
