Top Advertising Agencies in India (2026)

Most lists of India's top advertising agencies are out of date, and not by a little. On 1 January 2026 the Omnicom–IPG merger retired three of the biggest names in the Indian market — DDB, FCB and MullenLowe — and Publicis dropped "Burnett" from Leo Burnett in a separate consolidation. Articles written before that still name agencies that no longer trade under those names.

This list reflects what exists now. Every agency here has a live website that was checked; the ones that have been renamed or absorbed are listed separately at the end, so you can recognise them when you meet them in an older article.

What changed in Indian advertising in 2026

The Omnicom acquisition of Interpublic closed and the combined group consolidated its India brands. The practical effect for anyone shortlisting an agency:

MullenLowe Lintas became TBWA\Lintas. The Lintas name — one of the oldest in Indian advertising — survived the merger; MullenLowe did not. The old `lowelintas.in` address now redirects to the TBWA India site.

DDB and FCB were retired as brands. DDB Mudra and FCB Ulka were fixtures of every Indian agency list for decades. The FCB India site no longer loads.

Leo Burnett became Leo. Publicis merged Leo Burnett and Publicis Worldwide into a single network. This one is cosmetic in India — same operation, shorter name — but it means "Leo Burnett India" is now the wrong search term.

Wunderman Thompson became VML. A 2023 change that many Indian listings still have not caught up with.

If a list you are reading names DDB Mudra, FCB Ulka, MullenLowe Lintas or Wunderman Thompson in the present tense, it has not been updated in at least a year, which tells you something about how carefully the rest of it was assembled.

The agencies

This list is not ranked, and that is deliberate. There is no public dataset on Indian agency revenue, client retention or campaign performance that would support an honest ordering, and every numbered list you have seen was ordered by something other than merit — usually who paid, or nothing at all. What follows is grouped by the kind of agency each one is, alphabetically within each group, because that is the distinction that actually helps when you are choosing.

Network agencies

The India arms of the global holding groups. Deep resources, multi-city presence, and the scale to run national campaigns across television, print, outdoor and digital simultaneously. Typically the right call for large advertisers with national footprints.

Large independents

Not owned by a holding group. Generally faster to decide, more willing to take creative risk, and more likely to give a mid-size advertiser senior attention — the trade-off being less scale on national media buying.

On founding years: only two are stated here — Ogilvy's global 1948, and Talented's 2022 — because those are the only two either the agency's own site or a reliable source confirms. Several of these agencies describe themselves as "over a decade old" without naming a year. Any list that gives you a precise founding year for all fifteen has calculated some of them.

How to actually choose between them

Scale is the first fork. A national television and print campaign needs a network agency, because the media relationships and volume commitments that determine your rates take years to build and cannot be improvised. Below that scale, the network premium buys you very little.

Second, be honest about who will do the work. At a large agency, the people in the pitch are frequently not the people on the account. This is not a scandal — it is how agencies of that size function — but it is worth asking directly, and the answer at an independent is usually different.

Third, separate the creative question from the media question. Some agencies here do both; some do one and partner for the other. Neither is wrong. What causes problems is assuming you have bought both and discovering you have bought one.

Fourth, ignore the awards. Indian advertising has a well-documented scam-ad problem — work created to win metal rather than to run. An agency's award shelf tells you what its creative department can do with no client constraints, which is not the situation you are hiring it for.

Finally: everything above concerns advertising, which is the paid layer. If the underlying proposition is not settled, advertising it faster does not help. That is branding work, and doing it first makes the advertising cheaper. Our own view on what an advertising agency is for is on that page.

FAQ

Which is the No. 1 advertising agency in India?
There isn't a defensible answer. No public dataset on Indian agency revenue, retention or performance exists that would support a ranking, and lists that publish one are ordering by something they are not telling you.
What happened to DDB Mudra and FCB Ulka?
Both brands were retired in the Omnicom–IPG consolidation that took effect on 1 January 2026. The operations were absorbed into the merged group.
Is Lowe Lintas still an agency?
Not under that name. MullenLowe Lintas was rebranded TBWA\Lintas in 2026; the Lintas heritage name survived, MullenLowe did not.
How many advertising agencies are there in India?
No reliable count exists. The market ranges from the global networks listed here down to thousands of two-person shops, with no registration requirement that would make a count possible.
Do I need an advertising agency or a digital marketing agency?
An advertising agency works in paid media. A digital marketing agency covers paid plus organic — search, content, email, social. If most of your audience is reachable online, the second brief is usually the more useful one.

Disclosure — who wrote this

Ellington & Vale is a branding and marketing studio based in India, which makes us a competitor to several of the agencies above. We have deliberately left ourselves out of the lists rather than rank ourselves among them, and we have not ordered the agencies by merit, because no data exists that would let us do that honestly.

Every agency named here was verified by visiting its live website. Nothing about anyone's clients, results, revenue or headcount is stated, including our own. If something here is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will correct it.
